What are our historic resources in the Palisades?

Are you interested in preserving San Pedro’s history? SurveyLA is a program of the Office of Historic Resources, in the Los Angeles Department of City Planning and is the first-ever survey of the historic resources of the City of Los Angeles. The survey will be proceeding community by community over a period of three years, and one of the first neighborhoods surveyed is San Pedro.

Beginning this year, professional architectural historians and planners will be conducting the survey in San Pedro neighborhoods. They will be working to document buildings and other historic elements by examining and photographing them from the public right of way.

In order to be as comprehensive as possible, SurveyLA is reaching out to residents and neighborhood groups in San Pedro to help identify important historic elements in the areas. They are asking residents to share information about historic buildings or important social/cultural resources by going to the SurveyLA.org website and filling out a MyHistoricLA form. Information provided from the community is absolutely essential for the success of SurveyLA and this community input will be used to direct surveyors to important hidden treasures in the neighborhood.

Find out all the details about MyHistoricLA on the MyHistoricLA webpage. Individual historic places or neighborhoods can be submitted in just few minutes on the Historic Resources Identification Form.

Palos Verdes Marathon, May 15

Filed under: Events, Parks, Point Fermin, Streets — Jeniffer @ 8:31 pm

The 44th annual Palos Verdes Marathon, which takes place on Saturday, May 15, has been in the news lately. The Daily Breeze reported on Tuesday:

“San Pedro residents try to block PV Marathon over parking concerns

Fed up with the loss of street parking when the Palos Verdes Marathon comes to town, residents near Point Fermin Park in San Pedro are trying to block a permit for the May 15 event.

An estimated 2,000 people are expected to participate in the 44th running of the annual marathon, which starts and finishes at the picturesque park.

And therein lies the rub for neighbors in the area, who also must endure crowds for events like the Taste in San Pedro.

Read the full article on the Daily Breeze website. A correction was posted today in the Daily Breeze:

The full [Coastal San Pedro Neighborhood] council has taken no formal action on the race, said President June Burlingame Smith. The neighborhood council, however, has reiterated its previous position asking that entire streets not be closed for such large-scale public events held frequently at Point Fermin Park during the spring and summer months, she said.

Keep your eye on the Palisades Residents Association website for notification of possible street closures.
