Buscaino Hot Tip-Off for this Saturday

On Saturday, June 12, 2010, from 11:00 to 3:00 p.m., neighbor Joe Buscaino, asks us to join him in kicking off the summer by attending the 2010 LAPD & LAFD Safe Summer Tip-off Youth Basketball Event.  It is anticipated that 1,000 children and their families will attend this FREE special event to be held at the Los Angeles Sports Arena located at 3939 South Figueroa Street, Los Angeles. 

The Event provides an exciting opportunity to bring young people together in a positive and safe setting, as well as address some of the challenges they face in their community.  Basketball players from both Departments will be on hand to mentor attendees and discuss the importance of staying physically active, being involved in their community and inspire them to make contributions to their neighborhoods. The event will also feature positive role models, celebrities, entertainment, complimentary lunch, activities to build unity among youth, and educational opportunities to learn more about the LAPD and LAFD. 

Kids and parents should begin arriving at 10:30 a.m., and meet with LAPD Officers from SWAT, the K-9 Unit, Air Support Division, the Bomb Squad and others who will be showcasing some of their equipment and vehicles.  Firefighters will also showcase their trucks and demonstrate some firefighting techniques and tools used. 

At 11:00 a.m., kids and their families will be treated to a complimentary lunch before entering the Sports Arena for pre-game entertainment and activities.  The game between LAPD Officers and LAFD Firefighters will begin at 1:00 p.m.  Attendees will have the opportunity to meet and take pictures with celebrity guests, win signed sports memorabilia and be entertained by local talent and members of the Los Angeles Clippers Girls and Spirit Squad.  At the conclusion of the game, the Safe Summer Tip-off Trophy will be presented to the winning team.
